CARMINE first meeting with stakeholders in Brașov, Romania
On the 20th of June 2024, Brașov City Hall hosted the first local working session within the CARMINE project with the involvement of local decision-makers and other stakeholders from the Brasov Metropolitan Area, but not only.
The hybrid meeting (on-site and online) was attended by 34 people, of which 5 online. Participants included representatives of local and regional authorities, water resource managers, representatives of government environmental bodies, forest managers, members of academia and representatives of civil society.
The session was opened by Dr. Elena Mateescu, General Director of the National Meteorological Administration, and Allen Coliban, Mayor of Brasov.
In the first part of the meeting, Dr. Sorin Cheval (National Meteorological Administration), the project coordinator informed the audience about the purpose and ambitions of the CARMINE project, with a focus on the problems related to the Brasov Metropolitan Area. In this direction, the main trends regarding the variability of climatic factors, results obtained in other projects regarding the dynamics of drinking water resources in the Brașov metropolitan area, or environmentally friendly solutions applied to mitigate the phenomena of torrential degradation were discussed.
In the second part, discussions and consultations were initiated with the participants to identify the main current climate challenges in the metropolitan area, and also to identify the availability of stakeholders to provide information and be involved in the CARMINE project.
At the end of the meeting, all participants, including those online, were asked to fill in a short questionnaire regarding their perception of the relevance of the CARMINE project.
