The DT-HEAT+ tool uses digital twin technology to strengthen resilience against extreme heat events in cities. Using machine learning, high-resolution environmental data and a wide range of indicators, the solution provides next-day forecasts of heat-related mortality, enhancing emergency response and building community awareness of best practices. The initiative won the Most Promising Proposal prize at the 2nd DestineE Platform Innovation Challenge for its potential to transform approaches to extreme temperatures.
The addition of DestineE’s powerful computing and data infrastructure allows DT-HEAT+ to become a scalable tool to empower cities in their response and adaptation to heat risks. The partnership involves a shared roadmap, ensuring a clear route to implementation through defined technical specifications, regular coordination, and progress evaluation.
Athens and Prague are already underway as the first CARMINE’s Case Study Areas to be supported by DT-HEAT+, with replication envisioned across diverse urban contexts and environments. The integration of the solution into the DestineE platform will foster expansion, benefiting stakeholders and equipping European metropolitan areas with climate-resilient urban planning strategies.
