The conference was hosted by the Yildiz Technical University from Istanbul (Turkey) and took place between July 16th and 19th. The conference emphasized the critical role of cities in navigating global social transformations and building a greener, more resilient future.
Researchers from the Carmine project at the University of Bucharest (UB) and the National Administration of Meteorology (MeteoRO) led a high-profile session entitled Building Urban Climate Resilience with Co-Created Nature-Based Solutions facilitated by Prof. Mihai Niță, Prof. Cristian Iojă, and Prof. Sorin Cheval.
During the session, 15 presentations were given, covering various topics relevant to climate resilience, and different urban regions from Europe, Asia (including China), Latin America and the USA.
This session brought together a diverse set of presentations exploring the barriers, drivers, and innovative methodologies for implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) in urban and regional contexts. Key themes included:
- Inclusive Climate Action: the challenges and enabling factors in adopting NBS for equitable climate resilience, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and policy support.
- Urban Thermal Dynamics: A study on long-term surface temperature trends across urban development gradients in rapidly urbanizing regions revealed critical insights into the environmental impacts of urban sprawl.
Empowerment through Co-Creation: Presenters explored inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary approaches to valorize co-created NBS, showcasing how tailored empowerment programs can enhance stakeholder involvement and long-term impact.

This session underscored the transformative potential of NBS for climate resilience when supported by inclusive governance, scientific innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, being aligned with the research objectives of the Carmine project.
